How to do nothing in your holidays...

You'd think that with all this extra time on my hands (it being spring holidays), I would achieve so much. Or at least post more on this blog. But alas, my homework remains untouched, I still haven't finished that pencil case, or that jacket OR that quilt. I haven't even been stationery shopping at Officeworks! My holiday resolutions of eating really healthily, exercising everyday and opening a new savings account have all fallen by the wayside. They only things that have gotten a workout are my F.R.I.E.N.D.S dvds. And finally, my last blog post was just over two weeks ago, even though I swore I was going to update regularly.
And now I'm avoiding my homework by posting. But I'm going to do it when I finish. I swear.
Anyway, I haven't been lazing around on the couch all holidays. Only this week. I'll tell you what I've been up too...
Not last Sunday, but the Sunday before was the roller derby grand final, and my team, the Wild Hearses were in it. If you know me, you know I love any excuse to dress up. Hence the purple and orange...
Even the boys, mum and my friend Emily got into it...

Unfortunately the Hearses lost (we were robbed!), but it was a fun time. A lot of waiting around though :(
I went into town last week Wednesday, intent on doing some shopping, until I checked my bank account and realised I had $6 in there! Me and a couple of friends went to this movie instead, which was pretty good. And it was cheap student day at Palace, so that saved me some money. So much for trying to save money!

My parents went away for a few days, and the boys went to Oma's, so I had the house to myself for a bit. Of course I threw a raging party...kidding. I actually had a good time with my friend though, watching profound and moving films;

Cooking delectable gourmet food;

It was a delicious steak sandwich actually, with roast capsicum and pumpkin, cucumber, lettuce, carrot, onion on turkish bread with homemade chips. I still dream about it...
We also went for a bike ride and dyed my hair;

(It's more red in real life, and just a fade out henna, but I like it!) I went to a party at my friend Tim's house that evening, and people seemed to like it, so I guess it looks good. I've been getting compliments at work too which is always nice.
It's just me and dad right now. Mum and the boys went up to Kadina for a couple of days, but I opted to stay home, cook the meals, run the household. But when you're home alone and there's a F.R.I.E.N.D.S box set calling your name, it's so hard to get motivated! But it's been nice to have some quite time, soak up some sun and read about the crazy things celebrities are doing at the moment.
I realise this post may have been a little dull, so I'll go. My next post will be about my future, sparked by a
deep conversation I had with dad last night.

Until then,

Emily xx

My Amazing Night

So, Friday night I went to a gig. But it wasn't any ordinary gig.
My friends Emily and Claire had invited me to a gig during the week. A secret gig, that you only heard about through word of mouth. The band (multiple bands, i realised later), intended to break into an abandoned building (the Gawler Chambers, to be precise, on North Terrace) and perform. The idea was that they didn't want to have to make people pay for their gigs, and an abandoned building meant free venue.
I was a little apprehensive, to tell you the truth. Would the cops break it up? How would we get in? Would the building be safe? But these fears were fleeting. As the night approached, I became more and more excited.
They changed the venue at the last minute, to somewhere less central, an abandoned building off King William Street, next to the ANZ building.
As I got ready with Emily, I fussed for ages over whether to wear boots or heels. The boots were more practical, yet the heels looked better. I opted for the boots, and boy was I glad!
Me, Emily and Claire met a few other friends (Lucy, Hannah, Kahlia and Elliot) on Waymouth street. We had to shimmy under a fence to get in, but this just added to the excitement.
Boy, was the building the coolest thing!
To tell you the truth, we weren't there for the bands. It was The Bearded Gypsy Band, and some others, but we were just there for the adventure.
We met up with a few people (My friend George was there, he was the one who told us about it), and immediately after that we went exploring.
Here's me and Em trying to take photos...

Of course, the building wasn't powered, so it was really dark. But we got a couple of pics. Here's a blurry one of me and Claire. The window looks out onto King William Street.

Even though I wore my boots, they still had a bit of a heel. So when someone mentioned that you could get onto the roof, via ladder, I was a little concerned, given the rickety nature of the building. But I went up there. Here's my (very dark) view...

It was beautiful up there, but very scary, as the roof was peaked and made of slightly rusty corrugated iron, that I was sure would collapse at any second!
The building itself was about 2 stories high, with a basement which was filled with water. There was scaffolding which ran through the centre, and though some people were climbing all over it, I was too chicken! It had this fantastic non functional, yet beautiful old fashioned elevator, and great big victorian fireplaces. It was a fantastic place, done up it could have been something out of a Jane Austen novel.
The gig itself was good. The music was loud and dancy yet folky. They had lit the room with little tealights and I reckon there was between 50 and 75 people there. We were there from about 9:30 till 12:30, and we were some of the last to leave.
It was such a fun night. My only regrets? The heels of my boots are completely wrecked from stomping around and abandoned building, and I got gum on my jeans. Anyone know how to get that out?
Anyway, I'm sick at the moment (just the flu I think), and I'm feeling kinda drowsy, so I best be going. But you'll hear again from me soon (I hope!)

Until next time,
Emily xx

Apologies...

for not updating for...oooh 7 or 8 months??? I gave up for a while, simply because life got in the way (and I'm a lazy, lazy person). You know how it is. Anyway, I've decided to start updating again, for the sake of my cousin Lily, who is in Holland for a holiday and to my understanding is feeling a little homesick :(
So expect more soon...very soon. I had an amazing night last night, which I would like to share with you all...
Signing off (temporarily this time, I swear!),
Emily.

It's Raining on My Parade

Because School is Back. Though it actually was raining about an hour ago. Crazy for 30 degree weather, right?!? Anyway, that's all I have to say for now, I just wanted to post to keep this blog going. But right now nothing exciting is happening. Because School is Back.

Oh, but I am excited about the prospect of two free periods!

If anyone is interested, I joined twitter, so random musings of mine will be published there frequently. Check it out!

TTFN,
Emily

Today I made...

A skirt!!! From a pattern in a Sew Hip magazine.
Clever, no?
I'm very pleased with it. Considering I don't often make clothes. The only problem I had was that it was a little big at the waist band, easily fixed by a few darts. Also, the pattern was initially difficult to follow, but once you have the fabric before you, everything becomes clear.
I showed it off at Foodland (where I work) and one of my managers was very impressed (although he said it looked much better on me than it would on him. Mum disagrees - she reckons he has the legs for it :D).
I believe I will wear it tomorrow as its going to be 40 degrees C over here (thats about 104 Fahrenheit for those overseas)!!! It's a very lightweight skirt, perfect for summer. I'm over summer already though, bring on winter (and winter fashion...my favourite :P)
Anyway, I have a couple of other photos of previous clothing items I have crafted, which I will share with you. This dress I made at the beginning of the summer holidays...

It's essentially a skirt attached to a tank top, harder than it sounds. Because I had to be difficult and have it gathered. In the end I used elastic and hand stitched it to the tank. Not the most secure method but hey, it looks good okay!
Ohh...I just looked and realised that the pictures of the other dress I made aren't on my computer...and it's getting late so I can't be bothered finding them. Hold on, I'll search my photo library for something else I have made recently...
Okay, here's a yummy chicken salad I made a little while ago. I know, not crafty, but I always forget to take photos, and when I do, I never remember to put them on my computer...

It sure does make me hungry looking at it again...and I'm about to go to sleep. Join me for a midnight snack anyone???
Until next time...that's all there is, there isn't anymore...bop bop! (Anyone get the reference?)

Just a Quickie

I have to get into the habit of posting, even if i don't have anything great to post about, so that this blog doesn't fall into the 'started but never followed through' pile of mine, which is growing at an alarming rate. So...
Today I felt restless. Most of my friends were either working or out of town, and my family spent the day at home, sewing, watching movies, building chicken coups...you know, family stuff.
I had to get out of the house though, which is unusual for me, a normally strictly indoors girl.
So I walked up to our local library, borrowed some books and spent the afternoon reading on the couch on our front veranda.
I forgot how nice it is to go for a walk by yourself. I'm at that age where I'm constantly doing things with friends and family, and sitting alone in a coffee shop or buying lunch for one is strange thing for a 15 year old to do. "Doesn't she have any friends?" they whisper behind my back.
But the truth is that they don't whisper - in fact they don't even care. Working at a supermarket (which is where I work) teaches you that. I don't judge people on what they purchase - in fact, I'm not even paying attention to what they are buying.
And I really do enjoy doing things by myself, even though society dictates that I should be spending every waking minute with friends. So my solitary walk up to the library was a nice one (except for the massive blisters that were killing my feet!).
Don't get me wrong though - I do have friends and I'm no hermit! I just like a little me time as well. Sometimes the way I act and the things I do make me feel like a 30 year old in a 15 year old's body. But of course my parents would say otherwise...I'm definitely a teenager to the core!

This evening my Auntie Kath played a gig outside our local Council building. Her band, Mama Kath and the Rennergades, were great, and I filmed for them for most of the evening. It had a pretty good turnout.

She also has another band, Vincent's Chair Trio, which is a little more on the serious side.

Anyway, so that's my post for the day, i think I'm going to read a little more. I used to be an avid reader but this past year, I haven't read much at all. Life (and TV!) got in the way. I think I'm easing back into good routines again though. According to many, Year 10 (which i have just finished) is the worst, the year we all slack off. But going into year 11 and 12, things start to get serious. Any recommendations on great classics I should read???

And thats all you'll be hearing from me. For now.

You can tell this is new for me...

...because I'm posting twice in one day. No-one has even discovered me yet!
After a while the novelty will wear off and I'll post once a month so enjoy this folks! Anyway, first crafty post is my books for school which i have been very organised with and covered already, even though there is still two weeks of holidays left (13 days, I'm dejectedly counting down). Anyway...above is the collage I made for my folder, with some of my favourite things (and I managed to tastefully sneak in my two favourite characters, Chuck and Dan, without looking like a 12 year old).

These are my school books, with images downloaded from here. Contacting was stressful as always...

My English book, very appropriate. I also had time to whip up a pencil case, though i fear it may be too small (did I mention i have a stationary addiction?)

And that's all you need to know. For now.

Hello!

My first post...
Welcome to my blog (and soon to be etsy shop. Fingers crossed.)
We'll start with the basics.
My name is Emily.
I'm 15 (16 in 15 days).
I have too many hobbies, and not enough commitment to each of them.
I sew, knit, crochet, quilt, draw, paint, scrapbook, collage, design, read, write and watch TV. I'm also good at maths, I've been told (definitely not a hobby though!)
I'll showcase all of these on the aforementioned blog (the thing you are reading right now.) Except the maths. That would be dull, for both you and me.
You can see some of my previous work on my mum's blog here.
The title of my blog is in reference to my own eyes, which are chocolate brown.
Oh, and I'm very nice.
And that's all you need to know. For now.
